Last Saturday I joined the wonderful writers at the SCBWI Writer's Day at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles.
I had talked to a distracted agent about my query letter and how I can make it better.
The advice was:
1.) Start with the full agent's name.
2.) Check out any YouTube or website likes and dislikes.
3.) Develop an awesome hook for the first paragraph.
4.) Keep it to three paragraphs and under 250 words.
Good advice.
Then why am I so disheartened?
Probably because each and every agent has their own take on what they want to read.
That means research and study.
After doing my do-diligence, I'm still getting the same feedback.
Am I not learning? My heart is heavy and my face hurts from all the tears and yet, I get up in the morning to write again.
That's what I can do, continue to walk forward.
